Buying Handmade + Local

Over the last week or so I have been sharing items from some of my favorite small business and handmade shops. My goal was to hopefully bring some of these hard working shops (mostly run by nasty nasty women) into your lives. Handmade is better for so many reasons. The sappiest reason, because we poor our heart and souls into each item. And who doesn’t want to support that. For me buying handmade just makes me feel good. It feels authentic. It feels good to support a fellow maker. The thought is when you support a locally owned independent biz, you return a higher percentage of revenue to their communities than chains. Simply put, when you buy from a local or handmade artisan/shop, they too are more likely to buy local/handmade.

Here are a couple more reasons to buy local and/or handmade.

(1) Personalization
Often times handmade goods have an option for personalization. Most times you have direct contact with the maker when buying handmade and can easily ask for minor changes or customization. Example, I offer personalized baby name blankets and hats. And the ability to customize colors, fabrics, and stitchings.

(2) Unique
The most beautiful reasons to shop handmade, because its unique and not mass produced. Fewer items made. Making it even more special. I love it when someone says, “where did you get that!” Being able to answer by promoting a handmade (or local) biz gives me the best feels.

(3) Eco-Friendly
Work done by hand takes less energy than mass produced items. Takes less machinery. Less fuel. Especially if shipped overseas. A lot of times these makers use local and organic increasing the level of green 😉

HONEST + AUTHENTIC + HANDMADE = BETTER

My Moments Giveaway + Jord Wood Watches

It seems almost weekly we’ve been making a visit to the local plant nursery. Perhaps its like visiting the therapist. Leo spends most of his time talking to the garden animal display. I spend most of my time talking myself out of another succulent. Today I noticed the “plant rescue” section and of course had to rescue someone (plant-just to be clear) for $3. I hope he lives. Poor thing was probably thinking, “OH GOD NOT HER!! Just take a picture and leave.”  The Christmas trees are up and looking quite magical.  Wait just one minute!! That doesn’t mean I’m ready for Christmas. That would mean that Leo would be a two year old.   I’m not sure where time goes.  I’m not sure that phrase had any meaning till I had kids.  It was just something old people said.  So here I am just another old person talking about time in a bottle.

One more thing about time before I wrap this up….Ive teamed up with Jord Wood Watches for a fun giveaway. One lucky winner gets a $75 credit towards their own wood watch.  You can enter the giveaway here  AND  just for doing so you get a $20 e-gift card expireing on 2/28/2017. The giveaway will close on November 6 2016 at 11:59pm.  Good luck!!

What I loved so much about Jord Wood Watches was their story, “The value of a watch is not in being able to tell how much time has passed, but in being aware of the need to make that time count. Moments are bigger than minutes …”

Enjoy the tiniest moments as they will be gone in a flash!
